SHOREHAM WADING RIVER, NEW YORK –
The Hope Children’s Fund sponsored a bi continental run on Sunday April 19th, 2009. Locals from there respective homelands of Long Island, USA and Meru, Kenya participated in a 5K run to raise money for the Hope Children’s Home and the 59 orphans who live there. Here, in the USA, the event was held at Shoreham Wading River High School, where the runners strove to reclaim the trophy they had lost to the Kenyans the previous year. They were unsuccessful in this endeavor as they were unable to come in faster than eighteen year old Stephene Mung’athia, who finished at a time of 14 minutes and 8 seconds in Meru. They did however achieve success in their fund raising efforts, which was based on a $25 registration fee for each runner and the sale of Kenyan artifacts brought back from their recent visit to Meru in February.
